Reflecting on my Digital Identity
Reflecting on my Digital Identity
Hi, my name is Cheng Zhi Meng and study Engineering Foundation at Southampton of University Malaysia. There have nothing about me at the first 10 hits when I google my name and I'm unavailable to find something about me on the following pages.
Googling Myself
The reason why there have nothing about me when I google myself is that I'm not that famous and didn't do any important things before. I prefer less hit because I need to measure no one can steal my identity and use my identity to scam others. The benefit of having lots of hits on Google be in the future is when I have a business, I can get more views because the people search my name is easy to appear. The potential downsides are there to having many hits on Google is everyone is easy to get my identity and impersonate me online. Google presence may help me from getting a job after my degree is because it won't show up anything about me includes any bad news about me. I never think to enable google alert before.
When I search my name on Facebook and view it as a visitor, I can know where am I from, my photo and my latest post. I feel uncomfortable about strangers who can view all my information, if they want to impersonate me it is easy to do. I'll feel unhappy if my potential employer visits my timeline because he got to know my lifestyle and something else about me.
Privacy settings and tidying up
After I edit my privacy setting, now only my friend can view my timeline. It's is ok if someone I didn't know who view my Facebook post because the latest post in my timeline is not about me. Only my friend can look me up and can search engines link to my timeline, and they can potentially see my timeline if this is set to on.
There have many apps having access to some of my data, I do trust the app which accessed my data because I didn't access the app which I didn't trust to my data. I will remove the app that was brought by another company because I'm not sure my data is safe or not.
